Why did Karna's chariot wheel sink into the earth? The answer hides in a cow, an insect and a lie.
कर्ण के रथ का पहिया धरती में क्यों धँसा? जवाब एक गाय, एक कीड़े और एक झूठ में छिपा है।
Karna's Three Curses.
कर्ण के तीन शाप।
A folk tale says Karna squeezed ghee out of the soil for a little girl, so Mother Earth cursed him.
लोक कथा कहती है, कर्ण ने एक बच्ची के लिए मिट्टी निचोड़कर घी निकाला, तो धरती माँ ने शाप दिया।
But the Mahabharata says the curse came not from the Earth, but from a Brahmin.
पर महाभारत कहता है, शाप धरती ने नहीं, एक ब्राह्मण ने दिया था।
Karna wanted the Brahmastra. But Drona refused.
कर्ण को ब्रह्मास्त्र चाहिए था। पर द्रोण ने मना कर दिया।
So Karna went to Parashurama and said: I am a Brahmin of the Bhrigu line.
तो कर्ण परशुराम के पास गया, और बोला, मैं भृगु वंश का ब्राह्मण हूँ।
One day, by mistake, Karna killed a Brahmin's cow.
एक दिन अनजाने में, कर्ण के हाथों एक ब्राह्मण की गाय मर गई।
The Brahmin said: when you fight the one you always compete with, the earth will swallow your wheel.
ब्राह्मण बोले, जिससे तू हमेशा होड़ करता है, उससे लड़ते हुए धरती तेरा पहिया निगल जाएगी।
And then your enemy will strike off your head.
और उसी पल तेरा दुश्मन तेरा सिर काट गिराएगा।
Then one day, Parashurama fell asleep with his head on Karna's lap.
फिर एक दिन, परशुराम कर्ण की गोद में सिर रखकर सो गए।
An insect began to bite into Karna's thigh. So his guru would not wake, Karna did not even move.
एक कीड़ा कर्ण की जाँघ काटने लगा। गुरु न जागें, इसलिए कर्ण हिला तक नहीं।
When the blood touched him, Parashurama woke. No Brahmin can bear such pain. Tell me the truth, who are you?
ख़ून छूते ही परशुराम जागे। इतना दर्द कोई ब्राह्मण नहीं सह सकता। सच बता, तू कौन है?
Karna said: I am a Suta. Parashurama said: you took this knowledge by a lie,
कर्ण बोला, मैं सूत हूँ। परशुराम बोले, तूने झूठ बोलकर विद्या ली,
so on the day your death stands before you, this Brahmastra will not come to your mind.
इसलिए जिस दिन तेरी मौत सामने होगी, उस दिन ये ब्रह्मास्त्र तुझे याद नहीं आएगा।
Years later, fighting Arjuna, his wheel sank into the earth, and the Brahmastra would not come to his mind.
बरसों बाद, अर्जुन से लड़ते हुए, पहिया धरती में धँसा, और ब्रह्मास्त्र याद नहीं आया।
But who was that insect? Karna himself said: Indra came as the insect, to block my training and help Arjuna.
पर वो कीड़ा कौन था? कर्ण ने ख़ुद बताया, कीड़ा बनकर इंद्र आए थे, ताकि मेरी शिक्षा में रुकावट आए, और फ़ायदा अर्जुन को मिले।
